A beautiful morning for a ride.

On Saturday, I had a softball clinic to take part in and I decided to ride my 1X1 to school.

How long will it take? I know, I can get to Bros house in about 10-12 minutes under the best of circumstances, well, no one would classify Saturday morning as the best of circumstances.

A balmy 8 degrees when I stepped out the door. The trail between my house and Bros house had its share of clear pavement, ice, slush, you name it. Once I got to Cedar lake road, it was pretty much clear pedaling. Somehow I manged to make it to North Junior High in about 25 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised at what good time I made.

After softball, I wanted to take a different route home, so, I rode to Cty Rd. 17 and headed south to Minnetonka Blvd. West to County Rd. 61 and got on the limestone path that runs into downtown Hopkins. Dude! Was it ever sloppy, at least at that first intersection. The path was in quite good condition in my opinion. There were spots that were a bit wet due to melting but, for the most part, it was good riding except at the intersections where there had been some salt or other chemicals applied to melt the ice.

All-in-all it was a satisfying 14 mile day in the saddle, not bad for Feb. 27!

One year later.

Well her we are one year later....

Went for a ride with Bro yesterday. We rode out to Dads.
I rode over to Bros my usual route except this time I took APL. Got to Bros and saw him pedaling away as I rounded the corner from VCS. So, when I got to his house I had to sit and wait for him. I figures he was simply going around the block, so, when I grew impatient I rode back toward VCS and we met up and headed out to Pa's. We took Texas to the frontage road of 394, went west to Winnetka and turned right. Took the first left and went residential over to Brookview Park and used the foot bridge to cross over Highway 55. We rode north on the sidewalk on Winnetka, maybe they should get someone there to clean that thing up or something. When we got to where the trail meets Winnetka we discovered the trail had not been cleared, not at all this season, so, we headed west on Tenth Avenue to Boone Avenue, took a right and then took a left on Thirteenth Avenue. Wierd how all the streets are "Avenue", usually, "Avenues" intersect with "Streets", anyway.

We rode on Thirteenth Avenue and hooked up with the trail near Medicine Lake. I found the trail to be snow pretty well maintained, snow packed, a bit bumpy but very rideable, my hat is off to the folks from Plymouth that keep that trail clear, Well Done! We rode west along the trail to Vicksburg and headed north to County Road 6, well we actually went residential there as well to avoid the traffic in County Road 6 for as long as we could. We took a right and headed north on Dunkirk, rode a mile or so and turned left onto that one trail, you know the one, where you cross that little bridge and ride the trail feels like you are riding through everyone's back yards. We stopped and had an emergency beer at the bridge (that Bro, he thinks of everything), and discussed the best way to proceed, we decided to press on along the trail. When we got back to pavement we stayed the roads until we came out on Highway 101 about a block or so south of County Road 24. We rode north on 101 to Medina Road and hung a left and rode to dads. It was a hard bike ride. The snow was a bi8t on the soft side in places and the 1x1 does not exactly roll really well in the first place, never mind the snow. I have to say it was a great day for a bike ride, not to cold, not wet, not sloppy. The 1x1 stayed relatively clean, as did my back side, I do not have any fenders, you know.

I very much am looking forward to getting on my bike and riding some more. I will hopefully rack up some snow-miles before the snow all melts away and the bike riding season returns once again.
